Paediatric Assessment

Children's feet develop and change as they grow, their feet are not just smaller versions of the adult foot and thus should be examined and assessed accordingly. Complains of pain either during or after exercise, limping and not keeping up with peers / teammates can be a red flag and potential reason for assessment.  Foot pain is not normal and should be investigated early to help identify a cause, reduce any potential long term issues and most importantly getting our children back doing  onto the court / field / track doing what they enjoy as soon as possible.

Often our very sport orientated children are the ones that are most affected when it comes to foot pain and discomfort. Conditions such as Severs apophysiositis,  Pes Planus / Flat feet, Exercise induced foot and lower leg pain and Medial tibial Stress syndrome ('Shin splints') to name a few are commonly treated within the clinic.  Growth spurts, development milestones, chosen sports and exercise levels across these can all have an impact upon children's foot pain. These are often managed via a range of treatment modalities  outlined throughout this website. (Soft tissue Management, Footwear advice and if warranted Foot Orthoses.

Assessment of your child  will typically involve thorough history of the complaint, Biomechanical Assessment often including Gait and Footwear Assessments.

When visiting the clinic with your child ensure they are wearing (or bring along) shorts and have with them a range of their footwear including any sports specific. (ie Netball shoes, Football Boots)
